How do I find the right attorney for my personal injury case?

One of the best ways to ensure that you receive the best possible representation and legal advice is to take the time to find the attorney that is right for you and the legal issues you are facing. Not every attorney in South Carolina will be right for you and be able to handle your claim the way you want it to be handled. The Mike Kelly Law Group offers these suggestions for how to find the right attorney for you.

Practice Areas: No matter what kind of legal claim you are looking to file, it is critical that you work with an attorney that has a practice handling claims like your own. When you begin your search for an attorney, limit your search to law firms that handle the area of practice that you need.

Seek Recommendations: Often friends and family who have dealt with an attorney in the past can offer you a recommendation for where to look for a firm that can represent you the way you want. Additionally, you can seek out your local bar association or attorney referral service for advice. A lawyer that may be right for you will be in good standing with you local bar association, and may even be recommended by other attorneys.

Limit Your Choices: After examining any literature or information you can find about an attorney, you should limit your list of possibilities to three or four firms that you would like to investigate further. A law firm’s website will often be able to provide you with valuable information about the kind of cases they handle, and their level of success.

Schedule Consultations: After you narrow down your list of possibilities, you should contact each of the firms you would like to investigate further and set up a consultation. Some firms do not offer free consultations, so you should be sure to only select a few firms that you would like to speak with further. Occasionally it might take a few days before a law firm can offer you a consultation, but you should be cautious of any firm that makes you wait a long period of time as it may mean they are handling too many cases to be able to provide you with the attention you need.

A good law firm and attorney will make you feel comfortable and confident in their ability, and treat you with respect at all times. The consultation is the most important step in determining whether or not an attorney is right for you.
