About SSDI in South Carolina

SSDI benefits are available to claimants that cannot work due to disability.  They are designed to supplement income and allotted in the form of monthly payments.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) defines disability under three very clear parameters:

  • A person’s inability to perform any kind of work due to an injury or medical condition.
  • A disability is expected to last at least one year or result in death.
  • A disability is the result of certain conditions:
    • Physical impairment
    • Mental afflictions
    • Combination of physical and mental circumstances

Disabled persons or their families are eligible to collect SSDI.  Benefit claims continue as long as the person remains disabled.
