Legal Career

 

Lisa began her legal career working as a staff attorney for Carolina Regional Legal Services, providing legal assistance to disadvantaged clients in the areas of housing, consumer, and family law. In 1999, she relocated to Charleston and served as an Assistant Solicitor (prosecutor) for the Ninth Judicial Circuit (Charleston and Berkeley Counties). 

 

Lisa entered private practice operating the Law Offices of Lisa Long Cotten in North Charleston, SC.  She concentrated on representing clients in criminal defense, personal injury, worker’s compensation, and family law matters.

 

Educational Awards and Affiliations

 

Ms. Cotten is a personable and intelligent attorney.  She received the Trustee Endowment Scholarship during her undergraduate years and the Merit Scholarship while earning her law degree. She was initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.  

 

Ms. Cotten has taught criminal law courses as an adjunct professor at Trident Technical College Palmer Campus in Charleston, SC.
